PAGNY Hosts Training Session for Payroll Technicians at CHSPAGNY’s Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) hosted an all-day training session last month for its five payroll technicians in such areas as conflict resolution, teamwork, customer service and active listening.
“The intent of this training is to continue to provide the best customer service possible to the rest of our employees as possible,” said Martha I. Vormittag, CHS Director of Human Resources and Administration.
“The payroll team works so hard, it was exciting to see them so enthusiastic about this training class,” said Natalie Scott, Human Resources Manager.
The payroll technicians handle all the payroll functions for PAGNY employees at CHS, including entering time sheets and managing paid time accruals for more than 700 individuals under two separate union contracts. “There’s heavy interaction with the staff and managers,” Ms. Vormittag said. “It’s really a service center.”
To provide the training, PAGNY reached out to the 1199 Training and Upgrading Fund and the Fund brought in the Consortium for Worker Education, an outside vendor, to run the training session.
Ms. Vormittag said based on feedback from the session, other training sessions will be scheduled. The team at Rikers Island joined PAGNY in January to handle human resources for PAGNY’s new Division of Correctional Health Services. The Division continues to grow with the addition of new mental health units and expanded mental health services for inmates who are housed at Rikers Island.
The CHS Human Resources team provides recruitment, employee and labor relations, leave administration and payroll services for the more than 700 licensed clinical providers and non-clinical support staff for PAGNY personnel in NYC Department of Correction facilities.
