Message from Jane D. Zimmerman, Ph.D.
PAGNY Chief Communications Officer

November is American Diabetes Awareness Month.

November is American Diabetes Awareness Month, a time period designated to raise awareness of this increasingly prevalent disease and to focus attention on ways in which this condition can be prevented and eventually cured. During this month, there is also an emphasis on promoting healthy lifestyle choices for the population in general.

Diabetes is currently one of the leading causes of death and disability among Americans. One in eleven Americans has diabetes, a total of approximately 29 million people. Not only that, but about 86 million Americans are currently considered at high risk for developing Type 2 diabetes. Fortunately, Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented by making healthier lifestyle choices, such as losing weight, eating a healthier diet, and engaging in regular exercise. American Diabetes Awareness Month is designed to help improve the lives of those with diabetes and to raise awareness about how the condition can be prevented in those at risk.

We commend all of the PAGNY Professionals for their dedication and diligent efforts to raise awareness and treat patients suffering from this debilitating disease not only this month but throughout the year.

As always, if you have any news that you’d like to share with your colleagues, please let us know. We’ll include it in a future edition of The PAGNY Advance.

Click here to email us at: advance@pagny.org

To everyone’s good health.

Positively,
Jane
