Message from Jane D. Zimmerman, Ph.D.
PAGNY Chief Communications Officer

A substantial portion of PAGNY's patient population are elderly. For that reason, efforts to prevent falls — a leading cause of injury for adults over the age of 65 — receive special attention from many PAGNY doctors.

Dr. Jeffrey Passick of NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island, who is profiled in this newsletter, has become a leading advocate of Falls Prevention and the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi has developed a special program to educate seniors about the risk of falling.

This is all timely and relevant because September 22 —the first day of fall—is Falls Prevention and Awareness Day. The Day, created by the National Council on Aging, was first observed eight years ago to raise awareness about how to prevent fall-related injuries among the elderly. Now, 48 states participate in the Day and it even has its own hashtag: #FPAD2016.

And, as always, don’t hesitate to let us know about your programs, achievements and successes so we can include them in a future edition of The PAGNY Advance.
