A Special Message from Dr. Safai and Dr. Marcos about President Trump’s International Travel Order

Dear Members of the PAGNY Community:

On Friday, January 27, an Executive Order was signed that suspended travel into the United States for nationals from certain designated countries, specifically Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. This suspension in travel is already in place. Many in the PAGNY community are alarmed, and we want you to know that the PAGNY Board of Directors and Management fully support our colleagues affected by this order. Foremost among our concerns are their welfare, and their ability to confidently carry on the care of our patients and participate fully in PAGNY and our affiliated NYC Health + Hospitals facilities’ activities.

PAGNY Department of Human Resources (phone: 646-714-2109; e-mail: info@pagny.org) welcomes questions and concerns that our members may have regarding the order's implications and the unfolding legal challenges. In the meantime, we advise our members of the risk they would be taking should they choose to travel outside the United States while the order remains in effect...

Message from Jane D. Zimmerman, Ph.D.
PAGNY Chief Communications Officer

National Doctors’ Day, which we celebrate on March 30th, dates back to 1933. That’s when Eudora Brown Almond, the wife of a Georgia doctor, suggested honoring physicians on the anniversary of the first administration of general anesthesia, which occurred in Jefferson, Georgia, in 1842.

In 1990, Congress officially designated March 30th as National Doctors’ Day and President George H.W. Bush said in his proclamation: “Reverence for human life and individual dignity is both the hallmark of a good physician and the key to truly beneficial advances in medicine.” Those words are certainly true today as we recognize and celebrate the professionalism of PAGNY’s many distinguished physicians.

And, as always, don’t hesitate to let us know about your programs, achievements and successes so we can include them in a future edition of The PAGNY Advance.
