Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Medical Director of Chemical Dependency to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals System/South Brooklyn Health. South Brooklyn Health is a redesigned health care campus featuring the new 11-floor Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital which provides emergency care, modern labor & delivery suites, and state-of-the-art surgical services. The new Health & Wellness Institute offers outpatient services—from primary and preventive care to specialty services for children and adults—all designed to keep our community healthy and accommodates more than 250,000 outpatient visits, more than 89,000 emergency room visits, and with 371 beds, more than 15,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine to maintain its high healthcare delivery standards and to provide its staff with teaching and research opportunities and the chance to work with medical students, residents and fellows very closely. The Medical Director of Chemical Dependency will have overall responsibility for the medical services provided by the Chemical Dependency Program. They will have oversight of the development and revision of policies, procedures and ongoing training for matters including, but not limited to, routine medical care, specialized services, specialized medications, medical and psychiatric emergency care, screening for, and reporting of, transmissible infections and infection in accordance with law, public health education including prevention and harm reduction.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIILITIES:
• Oversee all aspects of the chemical dependency program • Provide collaborative supervision with the program director of non-medical staff in the • Provision of substance use disorder services • Provide supervision of medical staff in the performance of medical services within the chemical dependency division • Work with appropriate medical leadership and provide clinical direction to direct reports to set patient care standards, establish clinical goals and objects to ensure the strategic implementation of best practices and program development in the Chemical Dependency Division • Acts as direct supervisor and consultant for all staff assigned to Services. • Assist in the development of necessary referral and linkage relationships with other institutions and agencies including, but not limited to, general or specialty hospitals and nursing homes, health-related facilities, home health agencies, hospital outpatient departments, diagnostic and treatment facilities, laboratories and related resources. • Ensure program compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations • Teach Fellows, Residents, Medical Students, and advanced practice providers in addiction medicine
• Develops, maintains and updates Division Policies and Procedures • Adheres to all OASAS Operating Regulations • Provides leadership in attaining and sustaining outstanding patient experience. • Fosters a culture that inspires commitment to the vision, mission, and guiding principles of the organization and the program. • Engage in strategic planning with hospital executive and clinical leadership to develop programming within the Chemical Dependency Division, which aligns with overall hospital strategic plan. • Develop and collect performance metrics which the facility may utilize to plan, implement or quality patient care programs, • Ensure the regular and appropriate assessment of physician competency and intervene and remediate as appropriate, • Prepare division staff schedules. • Review, approve/deny and sign off on leave of absence requests and timesheets for the division • Prepare monitor and follow up on division Performance Indicators. • Participate in other related responsibilities as assigned
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The position will report directly to the Chairperson of the Department of Psychiatry for all clinical and administrative matters.
Qualifications
• Active New York State Medical License • Graduation from an accredited medical school • Board Certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology • Fellowship Board Certification in Addiction Medicine from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology • New York State Medical License without restrictions • Current DEA license • BLS and ACLS certification • Minimum 5 (five) years’ experience in a clinical leadership role • Demonstrated the ability to collaborate well with a multidisciplinary team. • Experience working with an under-served patient population
Wages and Benefits include:
Annual Base Salary: $272,000 based on 40-hour work week.
The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $339,200**, which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, and other factors as set forth below:
- Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year’s average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
- 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
- Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
- After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
