Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has an opportunity for an Ophthalmic Aide at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. The Hospital is part of the NYC Health + Hospitals System (NYCHHC). Metropolitan Hospital accommodates over 313,000 outpatient visits, nearly 70,000 emergency room visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. Assists in direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of an ophthalmologist.
- Elicit and record the medical history of the patient.
- Prepare patients for treatment and assist ophthalmologist in performance of patient exam.
- Take visual acuity of patient.
- Measure performance of auto-refractions and intraocular pressure checks on patient.
- Perform visual field testing on referred patients and accessing all visual field data when patient is seen in the eye clinic.
- Perform Optical Coherence Tomography and endothelial cell counts on referred patients.
- Represent the department in all health fairs.
- Continually update all patient literature.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year experience in an eye care environment (student experience will be considered)
- Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly related to ophthalmology.
- Understanding of ophthalmic equipment and testing.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced, high customer volume work environment is highly desirable.
- Formal ophthalmic training preferred.
- This is an 1199 union position. Benefits will come from 1199.
