Ophthalmic Aide

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has an opportunity for an Ophthalmic Aide at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. The Hospital is part of the NYC Health + Hospitals System (NYCHHC). Metropolitan Hospital accommodates over 313,000 outpatient visits, nearly 70,000 emergency room visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with New York Medical College.To maintain its high healthcare delivery standards.

Assists in direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of an ophthalmologist.

• Elicit and record the medical history of the patient.
• Prepare patients for treatment and assist ophthalmologist in performance of patient exam.
• Take visual acuity of patient.
• Measure performance of auto-refractions and intraocular pressure checks on patient.
• Perform visual field testing on referred patients and accessing all visual field data when patient is seen in the eye clinic.
• Perform Optical Coherence Tomography and endothelial cell counts on referred patients.
• Represent the department in all health fairs.
• Continually update all patient literature.

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• At least one year experience in an eye care environment (student experience will be considered)
• Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly related to ophthalmology.
• Understanding of ophthalmic equipment and testing.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail and documentation.
• Prior experience in a fast-paced, high customer volume work environment is highly desirable.
• Formal ophthalmic training preferred.
• This is an 1199 union position. Benefits will come from 1199.
• Salary: $72,276.71
