Description

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at NYC Health + Hospitals/ Kings County - PAGNY, the academic affiliate of SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is recruiting a full-time faculty member to join our division as academic faculty.  

Kings County is a New York Health + Hospitals Corporation site in Brooklyn, NY which has a storied history and the benefit of recent full renovation.  KCHC and SUNY care for primarily low income and minoritized patients, with a focus on improving health outcomes and specialty care for underserved communities.   We are a research heavy academic division, aiming for faculty who are self-motivated and interested in developing a career as investigators, in particular in issues of health disparity or diseases disproportionately impacting the underserved.  Responsibilities of attending physicians in the Division include supervising our enthusiastic Pediatric GI Fellows and Pediatric Residents in delivering subspecialty care at King’s County Medical Center, and call coverage of pediatrics floor at Kings County and SUNY DHSU, as well as teaching medical students. Endoscopic procedures, with full anesthesiology support, are performed at both hospital sites. If interested, opportunity for involvement in our Ped. Obesity and Bariatric Surgery program are also available.

This position provides ample protected time to pursue scholarly activities in an area of clinical interest with 3-5 expected half day clinic sessions/week. Faculty in the Pediatric GI Division are involved in a broad array of clinical and translational research initiatives, and we are well situated in a health sciences university with a strong population health, genomics, HIV, LGBTQ health, and research community.   Applicants with interest in medical education may also be considered for important roles involving education of students or residents.  Qualified candidates interested in this position will be board certified in Pediatrics and board certified/eligible in Pediatric Gastroenterology. Applicants also must meet requirements for New York State Medical Licensure. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience, and we offer a highly competitive salary and benefits. Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being Afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required. 

Provide services as a Pediatric Gastrointestinal Disease specialist for children in the Ambulatory care, Inpatient settings.  Provide support to pediatrics Obesity initiative

  • Run the Ped. GI clinics in Pediatric AMBCARE
  • Provide Ped GI inpatient consult as part of a team of specialists by rotation
  • Provide endoscopy and colonoscopy and other Ped GI related procedures as clinically needed
  • Support the pediatric Obesity initiative together with the Bariatric Surgery team
  • Teaching and supervision of fellows and residents
  • Supervise and mentor gastroenterology fellows and medicine residents assigned to the gastroenterology and hepatology service
  • Academic appointment at SUNY Downstate Medical Center 

Qualifications

  • NYS license to practice Medicine.
  • Board certification in Pediatrics and Pediatrics GI
  • Preferred experience in Pediatric Obesity
  • EPIC EMR 
  • Endoscopy and other Ped GI related procedures in children

  • Prior experience with Pediatric Endoscopes, colonoscopes and rectal biopsy equipment.

Preferred: 

Two to Five years post fellowship experience is preferred

Wages and Benefits include:

Annual Base Salary: $282,000 based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.

The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $365,720, which includes the baseline salary, 401 (k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below:

  • Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $55,520.
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
  • Generous Annual Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, Sick, Holiday, and CME days.
  • Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Top-tier plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates.
  • Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage: Equal to 2x your salary (up to a maximum of $300,000) provided at no cost to you.
