Dr. Boris Mashalov Recognized by NYC Health + Hospitals on Doctors' Day 2024
Jul 09, 2024
This past May, at their annual Doctors’ Day celebration, NYC Health + Hospitals recognized the contributions of 13 Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) doctors, including Boris Mashalov, MD. We are delighted to shine a spotlight on Dr. Mashalov, Site Director of the Pediatric Department and Division Director of Pediatric Ambulatory Care at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx.
When asked, Dr. Mashalov attributed this recognition to the doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, and support staff he works alongside every day: "This recognition is a personal achievement and a testament to the collective effort of our extraordinary team. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to our patients inspire me, and I am deeply grateful for the privilege of working alongside every one of them."
Dr. Mashalov is an accomplished physician leader at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx, where he helped develop an adolescent clinic. Described as a sanctuary for young patients, the clinic offers sexual health, mental health, and weight
management services for adolescents in the Bronx community. He also implemented the Adolescent Immunization Project, which resulted in 90 percent of NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx patients being fully immunized, roughly double the national average of 45 percent.
When asked about the inspiration behind the adolescent clinic, he said, “Recognizing adolescents' distinct challenges, we developed a welcoming environment where they feel understood and supported. By fostering trust and confidentiality, we created a space where adolescents feel empowered to seek the support they need, promoting their overall well-being." Changing public health outcomes begins with community advocacy, and Dr. Mashalov hopes that by promoting healthful activities to young people, they will adopt and pass these habits on to future generations.
When asked about his career with NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx, he said, "Working in a public health system has given me the opportunity to serve a more diverse and underserved patient population. This experience, where I encounter patients with limited access to healthcare, socioeconomic challenges, and higher rates of chronic diseases almost every day, has significantly contributed to my professional growth."
Dr. Mashalov’s advocacy for his patients’ needs furthers our organizational commitment to changing public health outcomes in our New York City communities. Dr. Mashalov exemplifies what it means to be a PAGNY physician, and we commend his commitment to health care excellence.
