PAGNY Honors Seven Hospitalists at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem on National Doctors’ Day

PAGNY honored seven hospitalists at NYC Health + Hospitals | Harlem at the National Doctors’ Day Leadership Luncheon on March 30th.
Dr. Bijan Safai, President of the PAGNY Board of Directors, told the audience that National Doctors’ Day is a time to honor all doctors “who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives and health of our patients and our communities.”
“From the specialist to the researcher to the general practitioner,” Dr. Safai said, “PAGNY doctors work tirelessly to prevent and treat illness and injury, and to provide high quality care to our patients. The practice of medicine is both an art and a science, and our patients rely on our PAGNY professionals to deliver the personalized services they deserve to enjoy healthier and more vibrant lives. We are proud to salute our doctors who are deeply committed to public service and who provide outstanding, patient-centered care that significantly improves health outcomes and quality of life in our communities.”
Dr. Luis Marcos, PAGNY Chief Executive Officer, presented the awards to:
Dr. Rafay Latif, a graduate of Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, who joined the Department of Medicine last year as an Academic Hospitalist. After completing his residency in internal medical at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, he practiced in Indiana and Wisconsin before returning to Harlem last year.
Dr. Gillian O’Shaughnessy, a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and worked as a hospitalist for nine years in Minneapolis before moving to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem last year.
Dr. Nasir Malik, a graduate of Punjab Medical College. He completed his residency training at Harlem Medical Center and served as a hospitalist at the Catskill Regional Medical Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was an attending physician at NYU Lutheran Medical Center when he joined the Harlem hospitalist team last December.
Dr. Ross Wilson, Senior Vice President of NYC Health + Hospitals, presented awards to:
Dr. Mashal Salehi, a graduate of Khyber Medical College in Pakistan. She completed her residency in internal medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln and was a hospitalist at Sound Physicians at Mount Carmel in Ohio, Corning Hospital and Manchester Memorial Hospital before coming to Harlem.
Dr. Khurram Zakaria, a graduate of Dow University of Health Services in Pakistan. He completed his residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, North Shore LIJ (now Northwell Health), and became the Chief Resident at Flushing Hospital Medical Center. Previously, he was a hospitalist at Mercy Medical Center, Grady Memorial Hospital and the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Dr. Joan Culpepper-Morgan, President of the Medical Board, Harlem Medical Center, presented an award to:
Dr. Karen Simon, a graduate of the University of Navarro in Spain. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Hackensack University Hospital and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Montefiore Hospital and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She worked in public and private hospitals before coming on Harlem in 2010.
Dr. Dennis Greenbaum, Chief of the Department of Medicine, Harlem Medical Center, presented an award to:
Dr. Roseanne Cousins, Associate Director of Medicine and Chief Hospitalist at Harlem Medical Center. She is also the Hospitalist/Clinical Instructor of Medicine and the Clinical Instructor for Foundations of Medicine Physical Diagnosis Course. She is certified as a Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine and joined NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in 2008.
