Dr. Vihren G. Dimitrov, Chief of Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, Appointed to the PAGNY Board of Directors
Oct 09, 2017
Dr. Vihren G. Dimitrov has served in several capacities at Lincoln since 1998, when he was appointed an Attending Physician. Since then, he has served as Lincoln’s Program Director as well as Associate Program Director and Lincoln’s Chief Medical Information Officer. He also played an important role in the creation of PAGNY.
As a member of the PAGNY board, Dr. Dimitrov says his aim is to strengthen both PAGNY and Lincoln Medical Center.
“I want to make sure Lincoln is well represented in PAGNY and to continue to make PAGNY a viable organization that is competitive and achieves its goals,” he says.
Given the possibility of federal healthcare funding cuts, he says PAGNY “needs to stay vigilant and ensure that our staffing remains relevant to the needs of the populations we serve. At the same time, we have to make sure that financially we’re in a good situation.”
Dr. Dimitrov, a native of Bulgaria, received his medical degree at the Higher Institute of Medicine in the Medical Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria. After serving his residency in internal medicine at Lincoln in New York City, he returned to practice medicine in Bulgaria, including a stint as the medical doctor at the American embassy in Sofia.
In addition to his position at Lincoln, Dr. Dimitrov is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College in New York and Assistant Professor of Medicine at St. George’s School of Medicine in Granada.
