NEW YORK, NY (January 2, 2025) – Physician Affiliate Group of New York, P.C. (PAGNY) has received a Strike Notice from Doctors Council SEIU indicating that they will strike on January 13 at New York City (NYC) Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, North Central Bronx and South Brooklyn hospitals. PAGNY believes a strike is unfortunate and comes despite PAGNY’s approach to the ongoing contract negotiations with Doctors Council being in a spirit of collaboration, while taking into account the finances of our funder, NYC Health + Hospitals.
PAGNY is an affiliate of and funded by NYC Health + Hospitals to employ healthcare providers at South Brooklyn Health, Harlem Hospital, Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital, Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Metropolitan Hospital, Kings County Hospital Center, and several Gotham Health locations. Since 2010, PAGNY and Doctors Council have successfully negotiated labor contracts. For the current renewal, PAGNY and Doctors Council started bargaining in September 2023 but failed to reach an agreement in spite of PAGNY increasing its offers throughout the process. After the parties reached an impasse in negotiations, in November 2024, PAGNY implemented significant wage and benefit increases for eligible Doctors Council members.
PAGNY has an unwavering commitment to support its doctors and ensure they have the resources they need to thrive both professionally and personally. We believe these changes will also assist in recruiting and retaining the doctors needed to staff the NYC Health + Hospital facilities and maintain the high quality healthcare provided to our patients.
According to the PAGNY Board of Directors, “While we respect the right to collective action, facing a strike is unfortunate. We have approached these negotiations with transparency and a genuine commitment to addressing concerns, presenting an offer that includes meaningful enhancements for our doctors and other healthcare providers. Our focus should remain on delivering quality care to the communities we serve."
PAGNY remains optimistic that a resolution will be reached swiftly, enabling both parties to move forward in partnership. We have consistently demonstrated our willingness to reconvene and discuss contract terms in good faith. We work solely within municipal facilities, relying on City funding, and have offered the full authority of what we have. The dedication of our healthcare providers in delivering high-quality care to underserved communities across New York City is deeply valued and admired. PAGNY is proud to stand with them as they continue to make a profound difference in the lives of countless patients.
