Dec 24, 2015
On January 1, 2016, PAGNY begins providing comprehensive medical and mental health services to the inmates in New York City’s correctional facilities under a new contract with the NYC Health + Hospitals. The contract was approved by both the PAGNY Board of Directors and the NYC H+H Board of Directors.
Under this contract, PAGNY will hire more than 900 highly qualified medical and mental health professionals to provide health care to inmates, as well as to children under two who are housed at Rikers Island where their mothers are inmates. This new agreement with NYC H+H will enable PAGNY to improve the quality of care for inmates, develop new training programs and engage in important groundbreaking research.
Bijan Safai, MD, DSc, President of PAGNY Board of Directors, said, “Our agreement with NYC H+H presents PAGNY with a wonderful opportunity to expand its professional services to a population in need of skilled and experienced health care.”
Luis R. Marcos, MD, Chief Executive Officer, PAGNY, said, “PAGNY welcomes its growing partnership with NYC H+H and the opportunity to expand our footprint in the New York health care community. I am proud to see PAGNY expanding its services to deliver high quality and compassionate health care to more communities in our neighborhood.”
Patricia Yang, Dr. P.H., Senior Vice President, H+H Correctional Health Services, said the agreement will help improve the quality and continuity of care for patients in the city’s jail system. “We are pleased to build on existing relationships that will support our important work to provide health care in correctional health facilities,” Dr. Yang said. “PAGNY has deep ties to many of the NYC H+H medical and community health centers and understands the essential mission of the public health care system.”
