PAGNY's Dr. Muhammad Waseem Recognized for Health Care Excellence by NYC Health + Hospitals

We are honored to highlight Muhammad Waseem, MBBS, MS, CHSE-A, FAAP, FACEP, FAHA, FSSH, one of 13 exceptional Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) doctors recognized by NYC Health + Hospitals for his dedication to patient care at their Annual Doctors’ Day Celebration. Dr. Waseem— Research Director, Emergency Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine—exemplifies the highest standards of medical excellence and compassionate care.

Reflecting on his 30 years of service at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln and this honor, Dr. Waseem shares, "This recognition exemplifies and reinforces my unwavering commitment to the welfare of children in our underserved community, a commitment that I believe every physician should wholeheartedly embrace. In my teaching, I emphasize the significance of compassion by attributing Lincoln's letter 'C' to this essential virtue. Delivering compassionate care is of utmost importance, especially when treating vulnerable populations at Lincoln."

As a physician leader and mentor, Dr. Waseem guides the next generation of health care professionals and nurtures a positive work culture: "I firmly believe that empathy is a transformative force that enables us to uplift and empower our patients. This, in turn, cultivates a climate of psychological safety, which is indispensable for promoting a high-performing team." He champions his medical residents' and students' successes.

Dr. Waseem is fueled not only by successful patient outcomes, but also by his population health research. In 2023, Dr. Waseem won first prize at the 8th Annual PAGNY Research Day for his study, "The Association between COVID-19 Status and Outcomes for Pediatric Patients Presenting with Asthma Exacerbation." He elaborates, “This institution provides ample opportunities to engage in teaching, clinical trials, and other research activities. My research initiatives extend beyond academia; they actively contribute to society, whether by removing guns from the streets, preventing suicides, or averting the ripple effects of bullying episodes."

We share Dr. Waseem’s commitment to providing high-quality health care to underserved populations. Working at NYC Health + Hospitals, he continues, “offers the opportunity and resources to provide essential care to individuals without access to standard health care and in dire need of treatment.
