NEW YORK, NY (OCTOBER 4, 2024)— Edward Chew, M.D., FACEP, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Physician Affiliate Group of New York, P.C. (PAGNY), was honored by New York Medical College (NYMC) on September 26, 2024, during NYMC’s annual Founder’s Dinner, an event celebrating visionary public health leaders. Dr. Chew received the Jackson E. Spears Community Service Award, which recognizes individuals and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to serving their communities. He is the first NYMC alumnus to be awarded this prestigious honor.

“I am truly humbled to receive this honor from my alma mater,” said Dr. Chew. “This is a remarkable event that highlights the significant contributions New York Medical College continues to provide to its community and students. I am also thrilled to be honored alongside Drs. Robert and Sherlita Amler, both of whom have made outstanding contributions to public healthcare.”

Dr. Chew has served as PAGNY’s Interim Chief Executive Officer since February 2023, following his role as Interim Chief Medical Officer. During his tenure, he has successfully led the restructuring of a billion-dollar medical staffing organization, aligning its strategic objectives with PAGNY’s mission and key performance indicators to enhance both operational and financial outcomes. His executive leadership has been pivotal in transforming PAGNY’s Faculty Provider Practice into an integrated, multi-specialty physician organization. Dr. Chew has also spearheaded initiatives in physician recruitment, faculty development, and budget management, with a focus on accountability while balancing clinical and financial results—key factors in PAGNY’s continued growth and success.

In addition to his leadership at PAGNY, Dr. Chew serves as Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Chew is an active board member and advisor for several organizations, including PAGNY and NYMC.

The Founder’s Dinner is NYMC’s annual fundraising event, bringing together academic, healthcare, business, and community leaders to celebrate the college’s rich history and future prospects. Distinguished leaders are honored for their impactful contributions, with proceeds from the event supporting student scholarships and other significant initiatives at NYMC.

The Jackson E. Spears Community Service Award honors the late Jackson E. Spears, a dedicated member of NYMC’s Board of Trustees from 1943 to 2003.
