Sep 20, 2022
In honor of the American Medical Association’s Women in Medicine Month, PAGNY celebrates Dr. Ngozi Nwankpa, Vice Chairperson and Director of Quality Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.
Read about Dr. Nwankpa’s childhood interest in medicine, her choice to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology, and why she chose PAGNY :
“I am the daughter of a father who is a physician and a mother who was a labor and delivery nurse and so healthcare was somewhat of a natural inclination for me. As an undergraduate student, for one of my community health courses, I worked with a nurse practitioner who supervised a women's sexually transmitted disease clinic in the South Bronx. This experience brought me into the lives of women patients and clients who sought services at the clinic. I had many conversations with patrons of that clinic centered around health education and self-empowerment and was fulfilled by the many ‘a-ha’ moments I witnessed women have. This amazing summer course was the beginning of my career quest in women's health specifically. The education and empowerment that I get to be a part of in the patient exam room today is still just as gratifying!”
Dr. Nwankpa’s commitment to nurturing women’s health exemplifies PAGNY’s mission to deliver exceptional patient-centered care to vulnerable communities in New York City. Thank you, Dr. Nwankpa, for educating and empowering your patients with your expertise and care!
